The EcoCenter Concept

This proposal is a private/public sector initiative to support the establishment of an instructional and demonstration facility, to be known as the NISL Sustainable Living and Development Centers (SLDC-Eco-Center), which will implement a program for certification in “Best Practices” for sustainable development and “Green Building” methods. Additionally, applied research will be conducted in collaboration with other Government and University Researchers.
The NISL Eco-Center will not only present technology for sustainable living it will engage the professional sector and the general population in the creative task of building an ecology conscious lifestyle.

The Eco-Center will provide leadership in the application of advanced concepts, referred to as "Solaroofgarden ", for the development of sustainable communities in both the urban and rural sectors of America. It will offer certificate courses, workshops, conferences, and seminars covering many levels of curriculum from continuing adult learning to advanced professional development and post-graduate studies state of the art methods for Green Building and for advanced Solaroofgarden solutions to Sustainable Development.

The Eco-Center Method

The Eco-Center learning and instructional environment gives the benefit of hands on experience for our students; provides capabilities for advanced post-graduate studies; and offers a workshop environment for collaborative research and development. This unique facility will demonstrate building integrated production of pure water, healthy food and renewable energy from solar radiation that is readily available in the tropical and sub-tropical regions. It will be a catalyst for change and show that Solaroofgarden can be an attractive lifestyle that can become accessible to everyone.

Our Solaroofgarden concept will continue to evolve and improve as we put into practice what we know and what we are learning. Our students will remain an ongoing resource to the Eco-Center as they go out into their communities and become effective agents for change. In villages, communities and urban neighborhoods the concepts embodied in the Eco-Center will be transferred to local Grass-Roots projects that will show visible progress towards achieving the development goals of Agenda
